For an interesting variation with a lot less traffic, go west on 134 north of Kremmling to Toponas. Then north on 131 to Steamboat through Yampa, Phippsburg and Oak Creek.

I did this route many years ago and it was just like the author described it. I liked the fact that it was off the beaten path so I really had the road to myself much of the time. Great ride through a lot of untouched rocky mountain splendor!!!

It's been awhile since the original poster has been here and while the scenery hasn't changed, the population in the towns has. There are many more visitors to all the towns now. The only major traffic jams you will have is around the towns, but

There was quite a bit of traffic leaving Steamboat, but once out of town a bit you get to really take in the beauty. Lots of elevation changes and tight turns every so often. Outstanding ride!

What a ride! There was quite a bit of traffic when I rode this on a Saturday. Lots of twists and turns along with altitude changes. Great ride I highly recommend!
