You will love this route we took it this month 08/08 - We were at the highest peak about 14,000 - and there was still some snow in August. The twisties are so much fun! Well worth traveling on.

We made the trip on a Sunday in late July (East-West). The roads were very good with spectacular views. Aspen was picturesque; unfortunately traffic back into Denver on 70 was terrible. Recommend not taking 70 on late Sunday afternoons.

A great road in 2016. Several very narrow portions in the miles closest to Aspen. I went East to West and the road up to the pass was great. The road on the western side of the pass has many more driveways, increasing as you get closer to Aspen. Plan to stop often for the views.

This is a very nice ride with plenty of turnouts to snap photos of the beautiful scenery both above and below. It gets down to one lane in a couple spots so heed the warnings and enjoy the ride. I took about 300 pics while on this ride, it's that scenic.

This is my favorite pass in all of Colorado. This route takes you over Independence Pass! Beautiful place to stop and take in the splendor. Large paved parking lot with bathroom vault facilities. No food/drink at the top. The road from the top of the pass heading into Aspen (or out depending on which way you are going) is very tight narrow road and at points it's a wonder two large vehicles can pass in the same lane. Bicycles also. Great Aspen leaf peeping. During the Summer months Aspen is very crowded and you can spend some time sitting in traffic on your bike but it's worth the trip.

Used to ride this on my way from Boulder to Telluride. Independence Pass is spectacular, amazing Aspen groves. Take your time and enjoy!
