All construction is completed on roads in the Honobia area and there is some smooth fun riding to be had. Coming from the south heading north on 259, turn off at Octavia and take the newly paved road in to Honobia and then head across the Kiamichi mtns. into Talihina. Or detour off 259 on to 144 and head east in to Honobia. There, you can continue west and come out south of Clayton or turn north to Talihina. All roads are excellent rides. I highly recommend you make a noon time stop at the little store/rv park in Honobia and order the Firehouse Cheeseburger. It is the best you will find bar none, period. I ride over from Talihina just to have one from time to time. Btw, the little blond in the store has her on Harley Soft-tail.

This is a great, peacefull and senic ride on a not well known road. It is gaining popularity and may start having more traffic in the future. I like fall colors and each year head to southeast corner of Oklahoma in November. I will ride this area in most times of the year since there are such wonderful forests and mountains. Plus, there are many senic lakes to ride around along with many historic sites. I have been exploring this part of the state since 1978 when I made my first trip here.

Rode this ride last weekend. Route 144 is ok but the real fun is from Honobia north on "Indian Trail" toward Talihina. This is full of twisties and lots of hills but you have to watch the road for imperfections in the surface....they always seem to occur in the most inopportune places.

Just got back from riding this road. The construction is complete and had a great time. Just watch out for the logging trucks, otherwise enjoy!

144 does not pass through Bethel . From Honobia it runs west to Nashoba or East to Octavia. What route was taken from Bethel to 144?

I road this same route 4/1/09 on my Road king. The road was all paved but there was one little bypass around where a new bridge is being built. Besides that, 144 was a thrill. Lots of curves and blind hills. You never new what waited on the other side, that's one of the things that made it fun.

Took this route on 4/19/08. Warning: 144 is under repair. Beautiful road unitl approx. 8 miles before Honobia. Pavement ends and nothing but gravel, ditches, etc. We struggled on to Honobia, but would not have done so if I knew the hard top would not return. Once you reach Honobia, there is no road construction. Strongly suggest checking with the county before taking this road. The part that is paved is beautiful. But travel at your own risk if it has not been surfaced.
