This is a great loop. Some suggestions to make it more of a twisty route.
IF you don't mind riding a well maintained gravel road stay on Rt. 44 till Slate Run Road (right turn just past Black Forest Inn. This will take you to 414. The section of 44 between 414 and 664 is really twisty.
Almost immediately after turning onto Rt. 220 from 154 turn onto Rt. 42 and go through Eagles Mere. This will bring you back to 220. A bit more twisty thanb 220.
In Picture Rocks turn off of 220 and onto Rt. 864 to Rt. 87. This is a really great road of sweepers and scenery. Turn onto Rt. 87 N to Rt. 973 W which will bring you back to Rt. 44. This is much better than riding that superhighway 220 through that area.

I just rode this on June 24th, and it was nice. The views are spectacular. For some of it, you'll go through areas where the locals wave to everyone who rides by. There are very tight turns, long sweeps, mountains, flat areas, etc. Will definitely do again.

As described. Just did it last week with my brother. No road issues at all. We called an audible though and continued east on 414 to the 6, to catch the start of the 87 and took that west all the way back to Williamsport.

Just returned from this ride. Absolutely amazing. Lots of turns, ups and downs, and with the exception of one twenty mile stretch, pretty good roads. I highly recommend this ride.

Awesome roads - spot on descriptions too. I presume this post comes from the same guy that does the Pa Magazine blog?

414 where it starts from 44 near Waterville was being tar 'n chipped while we road it Aug 17. Don't know if they went all the way to Morris or if it will be paved. Too bad cuz the section between Slate run and Morris was beautiful.

Nice ride report. I live in this area and know these roads well. A great area to explore is just West of Pine Creek and South of Route 6 Through Potter and Centre Counties. Some of the nicest roads I've ridden in the past 100k miles.

I rode this with rain on June 7, 2025. It's a good route and pretty typical of north central PA roads. A couple ride mods I made:
1) Take 973 East from Rt 44 after stopping at McConnell's Country Store.
2) Coming out of Williamsport, continue on 220 and then 42 north through Eagles Mere, Stop at The Barn Tavern and then the Air Museum (Saturday only) before picking up 154 north.
I stayed in Wellsboro overnight to start the ride the following morning. Wellsboro is a nice place to stay and has become a favorite of mine when traveling Route 6 and the Susquehannock forest.
