I did this ride today and felt the Hwy 5 was way more scenic. There are also more places to eat and gas up. I would take Hwy 60 one way and Hwy 5 the other way instead. If you choose to do Hwy 10 gas up and eat first and there are very, very few places along this hwy.

This is a beautiful ride in the fall when the leaves are peaked. I do this ride often as I live in Yorktown. I usually take the Colonial Parkway out of Yorktown, up through Williamsburg, and pick up 5 on the other side of Williamsburg. Traffic has never been an issue and the quality of the roads is very good. This is NOT a technical ride with a lot of twisties, although the 10 leg has a couple stretches that are fun if you're going fast enough. Another reason I like this ride is it's very flexible. You can take the bridge across between 5 and 10 halfway between Richmond and Jamestown if you want to shorten the ride.

Great ride, and little traffic. The plantation houses are nice. Lots of hardwoods make for superb fall riding. Rt. 5 and Rt. 10 are two different rides. One is through farms and wooded areas, and the other, Rt.10, is more open and more water views. A good ride

This is a beautiful scenic route that circles the bay. Mostly long sweepers, there are plenty of oppurtunities to pass and the veiw can get good when you pop out onto the water or dip into a small town. Road conditions are generally good and on a warm summer day expect to see lots of bikes.

I found this road very average. The route is pretty rural so traffic is light. Being rural it's nice and secluded, the road surface is good, there's some amenities like gas stations and food places along the way. It's not a very exciting route in terms of curves and what, there's lots of looong straights so it's great if you want a no drama cruise. It is very popular with other bikers so you'll probably make some new friends along the way.

This is a great ride; at an time of the year. I've done this ride with friends, but I have also done this ride many times by myself just to do some therapeutic thinking. The roads are wavy and smooth with minimal traffic, distractions, stop lights/signs, etc. This route is popular with other motorcycle enthusiast because you cannot keep the solitude of this ride a secret from the two or three-wheeled riding community. If you're like me, you enjoy riding your motorcycle at speeds of 55 to 65 and not speeds consistent with highway riding where you're mostly hanging on for dear life....The Five and Dime offers the kind of riding that hooks a rider to its serene cruising sense of satisfaction it provides. I love this ride and know you will too if you give it a try.
With friends you can swing into Williamsburg for breakfast or lunch before the return trip and make it even that much better. Safe travels!

My son and I rode this yesterday and it was a near perfect ride. I needed to go to Petersburg anyway and why not take the scenic route? Hwy 10 is in great shape as always and the ferry ride never gets old. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I am spoiled to the mountains. But, as far as local rides go, this one is at the top of the list.
