Great little route. Smooth roads with low traffic. I went up in late March, and there were still snow banks on the sides of the road. The gravel road for the last 5 miles (3 miles to the junction, 2 more miles down to the dam/lake) was wet and muddy, with some icy spots. A fair amount of potholes. Good view at the end, would be nicer in summer with the walking trail/access road at the end. Extended the ride by taking Ben Howard Road from Sultan to Monroe.

Good road to ride in spring summer and fall. There is another option out of Startup if you want to avoid the longer straight part. Pass Sultan to Startup and make a left on Kellogg Lake Road. This Option has more curves.

This is a fun road - low traffic, smooth pavement, great curves, great scenery. Road becomes dirt/gravel 4-5 miles before you get to the lake. The gravel is ridable on a street bike.
The only drawback to the excellent paved part of this road is it's so short.

A pleasant road a short ride away from the immediate East Side. The dirt section at the end has a fair bit of loose gravel, washboard, and very large potholes. Riding this alone was a bad idea as I suffered a puncture (nail), most of the road is out of mobile range, and more than a dozen vehicles (including 2x motorcycles) drove by without stopping to offer assistance. No sign of any sort of Ranger support on busy holiday weekend. I hiked 6 miles in leathers until a nice fellow picked me up and gave me a ride. Retrieved my bike a few hours later.

This road is great fun, not very crowded, lots of trees line the road so it take longer to dry out after its rained. There are lots of places to pull out for what I think it hunting or camping, so watch for debris on the road do to cars getting on and off. The last 2 miles of road to the lake are dirt and can be a bit dicey which is why i gave it a 3. I did it on my sv650s no problem, just go slow. Not sure but might be bad during rain. If you make it to the end the view of the lake and the damn are totally worth it!
