I live on the SW side of Austin and this is my local weekend ride. Everything in the original posting is accurate. This road is great for all skill levels and should be ridden if you're on this side of town. Use it as a "back way" to Johnson City and avoid 290.

This is a fun road. By Dripping Springs there are wineries and diversions. Further west is more fun. There are flood crossings so there may be water after rains. Combine this with Hamilton Pool road and/or 1431 and you have an nice Austin day loop

I rode this route in May 2021 on my full bagger. For my fellow riders, who ride a heavy cruiser, please be careful crossing Sycamore Creek. I could see water flowing above the road and it was not deep so decided to cross it. To increase traction, I made sure I was riding the clutch and brake but my rear-wheel still lost traction. Either the flow of water was fast or the road underneath had become slippery. I made sure I did not take the same route back.
I would not recommend this route for heavy motorcycles.
